Terms of service

OVERVIEW
Welcome to Food Safety Guidance, trading through safe-dining.com. The terms “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the seller identified in Section 20, trading as Food Safety Guidance.
We provide independently translated, printed food safety guidance packs intended primarily for use by food businesses. Our online store is powered by Shopify.
These Terms govern use of our website and purchases from our store. Please read them before ordering and retain a copy for your records.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information:
https://safe-dining.com/policies/privacy-policy
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. If another website policy conflicts with these Terms concerning cancellation, refunds or statutory rights, these Terms take precedence unless the other policy gives you additional rights.
SECTION 1 - ELIGIBILITY AND BUSINESS PURCHASES
You must be at least 18 years old to place an order. If ordering on behalf of a business or organisation, you confirm that you have authority to enter into the purchase on its behalf.
Our packs are intended primarily for business use, including staff training, food safety management and record keeping. You may use purchased packs for these purposes within your business.
A “consumer” is an individual acting for purposes wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession. A “business customer” is a customer who is not purchasing as a consumer. Your status depends on the actual circumstances of your purchase.
You must provide accurate contact, payment and delivery information. If you create an account, take reasonable steps to protect your login details and notify us promptly of suspected unauthorised access.
SECTION 2 - OUR PRODUCTS AND INDEPENDENT STATUS
Our products are physical, printed-to-order food safety guidance packs. The language, format, contents and specifications are described on the applicable product page.
Food Safety Guidance is an independent provider and is not affiliated with, approved by or endorsed by the Food Standards Agency.
Our publications are independent translations of the Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) packs originally published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). They mirror the structure, sections and intent of the relevant official English language guidance.
The SFBB packs are widely used by food businesses to help understand and apply food hygiene regulations, demonstrate compliance with food safety law, and support good food safety management practices that contribute towards achieving a high food hygiene inspection rating.
The FSA has not reviewed, approved or endorsed our translations. Our products are not official FSA publications.
SECTION 3 - TRANSLATION LIMITATIONS AND FOOD SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Our translated packs are supporting aids and must be used alongside the relevant official English language SFBB pack. They are not a substitute for that official guidance.
While every effort has been made to ensure that translated content is accurate and consistent with the original English version, translation errors, omissions or differences in interpretation may occur. We do not guarantee that every expression has an exact equivalent in the translated language or that the translation will be entirely free from error.
In the event of any discrepancy or uncertainty, the official English language SFBB documentation takes precedence. Customers should consult current official guidance and obtain clarification from their local authority, environmental health team or another suitably qualified adviser before acting on an unclear safety instruction.
Customers must not continue to rely on an instruction they know or reasonably suspect to be incorrect without seeking clarification.
Food business operators remain responsible for assessing the needs of their business, implementing appropriate food safety procedures, training and supervising staff, maintaining accurate records and complying with applicable law.
Purchasing, possessing, completing or using a pack does not itself establish compliance with food safety law. We do not provide a certification service or promise that a pack will meet every requirement of every food business.
No inspection outcome, regulatory approval or food hygiene rating is guaranteed, including a five-star food hygiene rating. These depend on the actual conditions, practices and management of the food business and the assessment of the relevant authority.
Printed packs reflect the source edition identified in the publication or product description. Guidance and legal requirements may change. A purchase does not include an ongoing updating service or automatic replacement editions unless expressly stated.
Please report suspected translation or content errors to orders@safe-dining.com. We will investigate and provide an appropriate correction or remedy where required.
These provisions explain the scope and intended use of our products. They do not exclude our obligation to supply products that conform to the contract or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Our liability is addressed in Section 15.
SECTION 4 - FSA AND FHRS NAMES, TRADE MARKS AND IMAGERY
FSA and Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) names, trade marks and rating imagery are owned and controlled by the Food Standards Agency.
Any FHRS imagery shown on our website or in our materials is used solely to identify and explain the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. It does not represent a rating awarded to Food Safety Guidance or any customer, and does not imply or guarantee any inspection outcome.
References to the FSA, SFBB or FHRS do not suggest any affiliation, approval, endorsement or official status.
Purchasing a pack does not authorise a customer to display a food hygiene rating that has not been awarded to their business or to use FSA or FHRS branding contrary to the rights holder’s requirements.
SECTION 5 - PRODUCT IMAGES AND DESCRIPTIONS
We take reasonable care to describe products accurately.
Some product images may be digitally rendered or AI-generated mockups used to illustrate the product and its intended setting. Props, food, equipment and other surrounding items are not included unless expressly stated.
Colours may vary slightly between screens and printed materials. Minor printing or binding variations may occur, but the product supplied must match its description and meet applicable quality requirements.
Changes to product descriptions, specifications or availability apply to future orders. We will not materially change an accepted order without your agreement.
SECTION 6 - ORDERS, ACCEPTANCE AND PAYMENT
Please check the selected language, quantity, delivery address and product details before submitting an order.
Placing an order is an offer to purchase. We accept your order when our Shopify store sends your order confirmation email from orders@safe-dining.com. A contract is formed when that confirmation is sent.
Before acceptance, we may decline an order because of availability, a pricing or description error, suspected fraud, delivery restrictions or an inability to fulfil the requested quantity. Any payment collected for an order we decline will be refunded without undue delay.
Once an order is accepted, we will not change the price or materially change the product without your agreement. If we cannot fulfil an accepted order, we will contact you promptly and refund the unfulfilled part. This does not limit any other remedy available under applicable law.
Prices are displayed in the currency shown on the website. We are not VAT registered and do not add VAT to our prices.
Standard delivery to UK addresses is free. Any optional delivery upgrade or charge for another destination will be disclosed before you place your order.
The total payable is displayed at checkout. Optional charges will not be added without your express agreement.
Where international delivery is offered, destination import duties or taxes not collected at checkout may be payable by the recipient. Relevant delivery conditions will be explained before purchase.
Payment must be received before an order is released for production. You confirm that you are authorised to use the payment method provided.
Price changes and promotions do not alter the price of an order already accepted.
SECTION 7 - PRINTING, SHIPPING AND DELIVERY
Each pack is printed to order. Delivery to UK addresses typically takes 5–8 working days from the date of order. Working days exclude weekends and public holidays.
This timeframe is an estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date. Unexpected production issues, unusually high demand, severe weather, transport disruption or other events outside our reasonable control may cause delays.
If an unexpected delay affects your order, we will take reasonable steps to minimise its impact and notify you of any significant change to the expected delivery timeframe.
We are not responsible for delay caused solely by an event outside our reasonable control where we have taken reasonable steps to avoid or minimise its effects. This does not exclude responsibility for our own failure to fulfil our obligations or remove any applicable cancellation or refund rights.
Unless a different delivery period has been agreed, consumer orders will be delivered without undue delay and within 30 days of acceptance.
If a consumer delivery is late, you may have the right to set a reasonable additional deadline and cancel if we fail to meet it. You may cancel immediately where the law permits, including where delivery by an agreed essential deadline was required or we refuse to deliver. Any refund due will be made without undue delay.
We may use third-party printing and delivery providers. Your purchase contract remains with us, and their involvement does not remove our contractual responsibilities.
We remain responsible for the goods until they are delivered into your possession or that of a person you nominate to receive them. For consumers, the statutory exception applies where you independently commission a carrier that we did not offer.
Ownership of the physical goods passes to you once we have received full payment and the goods have been delivered. Intellectual property rights are addressed separately in Section 10.
If goods arrive damaged, are missing or appear to have been lost in transit, contact orders@safe-dining.com so we can investigate and arrange an appropriate remedy.
If an incorrect address supplied by you or a failure to accept delivery causes additional delivery costs, we may ask you to pay reasonable, evidenced redelivery costs. This does not affect statutory cancellation or refund rights.
SECTION 8 - CANCELLATIONS, RETURNS AND FAULTY PRODUCTS
Business purchases
For business purchases, we do not offer change-of-mind cancellations, returns or exchanges once an order has been accepted, because each pack is printed to order.
Please contact us immediately if you need to change or cancel an order. We may agree to a request where production has not started, but this is not guaranteed after acceptance.
This restriction does not apply to products that are faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or otherwise fail to conform to the contract, or to any other right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Consumer purchases
If you purchase as a consumer, you may cancel an online order for a standard pack without giving a reason, from the time you place the order until 14 days after the day you, or someone you nominate other than the carrier, receives it.
For multiple goods ordered together and delivered separately, the cancellation period ends 14 days after the day the last goods are received.
Printing a standard pack after an order is placed does not, by itself, remove this cancellation right. If we offer genuinely personalised goods or goods made to your individual specifications, any applicable cancellation exception will be explained before purchase.
To cancel, email orders@safe-dining.com or write to our address in Section 20 with a clear statement that you wish to cancel. You may use the optional cancellation form below, but you do not have to. Sending your cancellation notice before the deadline is sufficient.
Return the goods to the address in Section 20, unless we agree another return address with you, without undue delay and within 14 days after notifying us. You pay the direct return postage costs for a change-of-mind return. Please package the goods securely.
We will reimburse the product price and any standard outbound delivery charge. We do not have to reimburse the additional cost of an optional premium delivery service.
Refunds will be made without undue delay and within 14 days after we receive the returned goods or evidence that you have sent them back, whichever is earlier. If no goods were supplied, we will refund within 14 days after receiving your cancellation notice.
We will use the original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise, and we will not charge a refund fee.
Where the law permits, we may deduct a reasonable amount for loss in value caused by handling beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the product. Writing in or using a pack may reduce its value. Opening the packaging to inspect it does not itself remove cancellation rights.
Faulty, damaged or incorrect products
If your order arrives damaged, has a printing fault, is the wrong item or otherwise does not conform to the contract, please contact us promptly with your order details and a description of the issue. Photographs may help us assess the problem.
We will arrange an appropriate remedy, including replacement or refund where required, and cover reasonable return costs for faulty or incorrectly supplied goods.
Consumers have statutory rights to goods of satisfactory quality, fit for their applicable purpose and as described. These include, where the legal conditions are met, a short-term right to reject faulty goods within 30 days and further rights to repair, replacement, a price reduction or a refund.
A replacement is not your only remedy where the law gives you another choice.

Our publications have been produced using SFBB material under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
© Crown copyright material from “Safer food, better business”, Food Standards Agency, source edition/date: June 2025, used under the terms of the Open Government Licence v3.0.

For information about Crown copyright and the licence, visit The National Archives:
https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/version/3/
For enquiries about the use and re-use of the original SFBB material, contact BusinessComplianceTeam@food.gov.uk. Queries about your purchase or our translation should be sent to orders@safe-dining.com.
Original FSA logos, images and branding have been removed or replaced where required. The Open Government Licence does not grant unrestricted rights to use FSA trade marks, logos, third-party photographs or other material excluded from the licence.
Nothing in these Terms claims ownership of the underlying Crown copyright material or removes rights granted directly under the Open Government Licence.
SECTION 10 - OUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND PERMITTED USE
Copyright in our original translated wording, original design elements and other original contributions, to the extent that separate copyright subsists and is owned by us, is © Food Safety Guidance. All rights reserved, subject to the permissions and exceptions below.
You may read, complete and use purchased packs within your business, including for staff training, food safety procedures and record keeping. You may complete and tailor the designated sections for their intended purpose.
Except as permitted above, by applicable law or by a relevant licence, our separately protected material may not be copied, reproduced, adapted, uploaded, distributed or used to produce copies for resale without our prior written permission.
These restrictions do not prevent independent use or adaptation of the original FSA material under the Open Government Licence.
Nothing in these Terms restricts statutory copyright exceptions or any lawful resale of a legitimately purchased physical copy.
Our branding and original website content may not be used in a way that infringes our rights or falsely suggests an association with us. Third-party names, logos and other intellectual property remain the property of their respective owners.
SECTION 11 - RELATIONSHIP WITH SHOPIFY
Our online store is powered by Shopify, which provides the platform used to display products, process orders and support the shopping experience.
Your contract for the purchase of our products is with Food Safety Guidance, not Shopify. Food Safety Guidance is responsible for fulfilling that contract and handling product, delivery and refund enquiries.
Shopify is not the publisher or seller of our translated packs. Nothing in these Terms releases Shopify or any other party from responsibility for its own acts or omissions where liability arises under applicable law.
SECTION 12 - PRIVACY
We handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy:
https://safe-dining.com/policies/privacy-policy
Where necessary to process payments, produce orders and deliver purchases, information may be shared with Shopify, payment providers, printing partners and delivery providers as explained in that policy.
Shopify also processes personal information in accordance with its applicable privacy policy:
https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy
Acknowledging these policies does not constitute consent to optional marketing or other processing that requires separate consent.
SECTION 13 - WEBSITE ACCESS, THIRD-PARTY TOOLS AND LINKS
We take reasonable care in operating our website but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. Access may be temporarily affected by maintenance, technical faults or events outside our reasonable control.
Links to third-party websites, including official guidance, are provided for convenience. We do not control those websites or their subsequent changes.
Optional third-party tools may be subject to their providers’ terms, which should be made available before use.
Using a third-party provider to perform our obligations does not remove our responsibility for those obligations. Nothing in this section excludes liability for our own breach of contract or failure to exercise legally required care.
SECTION 14 - REVIEWS, ACCEPTABLE USE AND ACCOUNT SUSPENSION
You retain ownership of any review or feedback you submit.
By submitting a review for publication, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and reproduce it in connection with our products, website and marketing, subject to applicable privacy and advertising rules.
We may make minor formatting or spelling corrections but will not materially change the meaning of a review or present it misleadingly.
Reviews must reflect genuine experiences. You must disclose any relevant incentive and must not submit unlawful, defamatory, misleading or infringing content.
We will not treat an ordinary customer service email or complaint as permission to publish it as a testimonial.
You must not use our website to commit fraud, infringe intellectual property rights, harass others, submit malicious software, access accounts without authority or interfere with the website’s security or operation.
Automated tools must not be used to bypass access controls, conceal fraudulent activity or place unauthorised orders.
We may restrict access, remove content or suspend an account where reasonably necessary to address suspected fraud, a serious breach of these Terms, security risks or a legal requirement.
Suspension or termination of website access does not remove your rights concerning an existing order or allow us to retain payment for goods we do not supply.
SECTION 15 - LIABILITY AND LIMITATIONS
Liabilities that are not excluded
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for:
• Death or personal injury caused by negligence.
• Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
• Defective products where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
• Any other liability, obligation or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
These protections apply to every section of these Terms.
We remain responsible for supplying products that conform to the contract and for complying with our applicable legal obligations.
Scope of our responsibility
Our products provide general translated guidance and are not a bespoke assessment, professional consultancy service, certification or guarantee of compliance.
We do not undertake responsibility for running your food business, supervising staff, checking your premises, verifying your records or deciding whether your procedures meet all requirements applicable to your activities.
We do not guarantee an inspection result, a particular hygiene rating or the avoidance of enforcement action.
Translation and customer responsibilities
The translation limitations and requirement to use the official English language SFBB pack alongside our products are set out in Section 3.
We are not responsible for losses to the extent that they are caused by:
• Misuse of a pack or use outside its stated purpose.
• A customer’s unauthorised alteration of safety instructions.
• Failure to implement appropriate food safety procedures or maintain accurate records.
• Continuing to follow an instruction after becoming aware that it is incorrect or unsafe.
• Failure to follow applicable law or specific directions given by the relevant authority.
Our translated packs are supplementary aids for use alongside the official English language SFBB guidance. Although reasonable care is taken in preparing them, translations may contain errors, omissions or differences in interpretation. We do not warrant that the translated wording will be entirely free from error.
The official English language guidance takes precedence in the event of any discrepancy. Unclear safety instructions should be checked against that guidance and clarified with a suitably qualified adviser before use.
Food business operators remain responsible for implementing appropriate food safety procedures, supervising and training staff, maintaining accurate records and complying with applicable law. Purchasing or using our products does not guarantee legal compliance, regulatory approval or any particular food hygiene rating.
Business customers
Food Safety Guidance supplies independent translated publications as supplementary reference materials. Our products do not constitute a bespoke food safety assessment, consultancy service, certification or guarantee of regulatory compliance.
Translations may contain errors, omissions or differences in interpretation. We do not guarantee that translated content is entirely error-free. Each publication must be used alongside the relevant official English language SFBB guidance, which takes precedence where there is any discrepancy. Unclear safety instructions should be clarified with a suitably qualified adviser before use.
Customers remain responsible for operating their food businesses safely, implementing appropriate procedures, training and supervising staff, maintaining accurate records and complying with applicable requirements. Purchasing or using a publication does not transfer those operational responsibilities to Food Safety Guidance or guarantee any inspection outcome.
For business purchases, we exclude liability for:
• Indirect or consequential loss.
• Loss of profit, revenue or anticipated savings.
• Loss of business, contracts, opportunity or goodwill.
These exclusions apply to claims arising from the supply or use of our publications, including translation errors, omissions or inaccuracies, whether arising in contract, negligence or otherwise.
We are not responsible for losses to the extent caused by misuse of a publication, unauthorised alterations to safety instructions or a customer’s failure to implement appropriate food safety procedures.
Consumers
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
SECTION 16 - COMPLAINTS AND CORRECTIONS
Please send complaints, order queries or suspected translation errors to orders@safe-dining.com, including sufficient information for us to investigate.
We will consider complaints fairly and seek to resolve them promptly. Where we need further information or additional time, we will let you know.
Where a reported error could affect food safety, we will assess it and take appropriate corrective action.
Using our complaints process does not prevent you from exercising statutory rights or bringing a claim. Where applicable law requires information about alternative dispute resolution, we will provide it.
SECTION 17 - CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
We may update these Terms for future website use and future purchases.
The version in effect when your order is accepted applies to that order. We will not retrospectively change an existing contract without your agreement, except where a change is required by law.
Material changes will be communicated where legally required.
SECTION 18 - GENERAL CONTRACT TERMS
These Terms, the product description and any other terms expressly agreed before purchase form the agreement relating to your order. Nothing in this section excludes a statement or representation that is legally binding.
If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply where they can operate fairly and lawfully.
A delay in exercising a right does not mean that the right has been waived.
We may transfer our rights and obligations to another business only where this does not reduce your contractual or statutory protections. We will notify you where an existing order is affected.
Any provision intended to continue after an order is completed or website access ends will continue to apply, including provisions concerning intellectual property, outstanding payments, liability and dispute resolution.
SECTION 19 - GOVERNING LAW AND COURTS
These Terms and contracts made under them are governed by the law of England and Wales.
For business customers, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes.
For consumers, this choice of law does not remove mandatory protections available under the law of your country of residence where those protections apply.
Consumers may bring proceedings in any court available under applicable consumer jurisdiction rules, including the courts of the part of the United Kingdom where they live.
